Obituary of Patricia Whitfield

Patricia “Pat” Whitfield, 82, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022, in Palm Bay, Florida. She was born in Grenada, Mississippi to Benjamin and Magnolia (Hayward) Sanders. 

While attending Holmes Jr. College in Mississippi, Pat took a liking to her lab partner Russell. They were married in 1964 and shared over 57 wonderful years together. They had two children: Karen and John.

Pat was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her kindness, compassion, and generosity were felt by all who knew her. This extended to her students and her treasured Stone Middle School community. With over 48 years of teaching under her belt (and three attempts at “retirement”), her dedication to education and her love of teaching was unmatched. 

Pat was an amazing cook and loved creating delicious meals. She loved to bake and surprise her family, neighbors, and friends with a tray of rolls or a fantastic cake. Her kind spirit and loving nature will be greatly missed. 

Pat is survived by her husband, Russell; sisters Judy Ussery and Becky Sanders; daughter Karen Gibson; grandchildren David Gibson and Sierra (Austin) Hoover; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 pm on February 26th at 2:00 PM at Ammen Family Cremation & Funeral Care 950 Malabar Road SE Palm Bay, Florida (on Malabar Road). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Save the Manatee.
