Charles Joseph Hickey

Obituary of Charles Joseph Hickey

Charles Joseph (Dominic) Hickey, age 49 of Melbourne Florida passed away at 8:51am on the 25th day of August 2021. Some people knew him as Dominic St Charles, Dominic, Dom, Charlie, or Chuck. But all who knew him, He called friend.

On March 31st 1972, Charles was born at Elmendorf AFB Hospital in Anchorage Alaska to Joanne Blasko Hickey (Byrnes) and Dennis Edward Hickey. He was a class of 1990 Carlisle High School graduate where he briefly wrestled, ran track, played football, and was a member of the jazz band (The Galaxies). Outside of school, He loved everything Star Wars, Star Trek and Transformers, played D&D with friends, and started forming his first band, as music was his first and lifelong passion. Charlie then went on to graduate from John Carroll University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, where He majored in communications and minored in psychology. In his free time from studies, Charlie played intramural hockey, worked at the college radio station and spent time with friends playing music in the band Sacrosanct as well as the earliest version of his band, URN.

Before, during, and after college, Charlie held several jobs. The most notable were working the banbury at Carlisle Tire and Wheel, his time as DJ for WENZ 107.9 in Cleveland, working as an admin for Edelman in Chicago, his time at Sam Ash in Orlando, and most recently working with his wonderful coworkers at Percepta doing dispute resolution for Ford in Melbourne, Florida. But his true passion, His music career, began in the garage of his childhood home. In college, He was a member of the band Sacrosanct as well as his band URN. He then signed on as a member of Morphine Angel as well as the Electric Hellfire Club. Eventually, Charlie chose to settle in Chicago and return focus to his band, URN in which He toured all over the country with many notable bands. Once Moving to Florida, in addition to URN, He briefly filled in with the bands Diabolic Intent and the Hackish, and he also formed the Celtic Irish band, O’Hichidhe.

Charlie’s motto in life was “Above all else, be a good friend” and he lived that every day. Every stranger he ever knew was just a friend he hadn’t met yet. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome, valued, heard, and understood and always accepted everyone for their own individual uniqueness. He had the best memory of anyone we know and was always the first to call on Holidays or Birthdays. And through good times and bad, He always showed up with a beaming smile, an ear to listen, and a warm loving hug. Charlie was known far and wide for making a short story long and was exuberant in the telling because every story and every adventure involved the ones he loved. This made the telling more enjoyable as well as comical because what He cherished most in life was his family. His blood family, his friendships, and his music family; To him they were one and the same.

Charles is survived by his beloved Wife, Jenny Sheriff Hickey and the light of his life, his Daughter, Bonnie Rain Hickey of Melbourne, FL; His Mother, Joanne Blasko Byrnes (Kenneth Byrnes) of Melbourne FL; His Father, Dennis Hickey (Patricia Hickey) of North Huntingdon PA; His adoring Sister, Carol Hickey of Astoria NY; Sister-in-law, Kelly Sheriff Koser of Chambersburg PA; Step-Brothers, Michael Brown (Lanie) of Concord NC; Kenneth Byrnes (Tammy) of Prairie de Chien WI, Thomas Byrnes of Durango CO, His Step-Sisters, Jeanne Byrnes Funk (Larry) of Houston TX Kathryn Byrnes of Hershey PA; His Nephews, Andrew Koser (Kayla) and Benjamin Koser of Shippensburg PA, Kenneth Funk of Austin TX, Joseph Byrnes (Linley) of Flagstaff AZ; Great Nephew, Waylon Koser of Shippensburg PA; His Nieces, Bethany Byrnes Lu and Jennifer Lu of Titusville FL, Elizabeth Funk Phelps (Cody) of Austin TX, and Rebekah Byrnes de Montesdeoca (Jairo Daniel) of Quito Ecuador; His much loved Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Godparents and Godchildren; As well as most of His music family and dearest friends (You know who you are).
