Obituary of James Raymond Platis
James Raymond Platis, 67, of Melbourne, Florida passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 20, 2021.
James was born on December 4, 1953 in Wichita Falls, Texas to parents, George and Marylin (nee Becherer) Platis. He grew up in Northampton, Ohio and attended Walsh Jesuit High School. After high school, he earned his business degree from the University of Akron along with his Masters Degree at the University of Central Florida.
Besides family and friends, his true passions included traveling, photography, and golf. As the manager of production planning at Intersil, he was able to travel to the Far East on many occasions. He enjoyed sharing stories from Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, and Malaysia. He also traveled extensively throughout the U.S. most recently doing a solo trip (with many visitors along the way!) across country from Florida all the way to Olympic National Park in Washington State, then down through the southwest. He had a keen eye for photography and took many memorable photos. Golf was another passion, being a certified member of Arnie’s Army, he loved caddying as a young man. He particularly loved being in a golf league with all of his buddies. The league has since been named after him. He will be missed by all who knew him.
James is preceded in death by his parents Marylin and George, and brother, George. He is survived by brothers, Gary, Gregory, and Christopher (Michele), along with his sister, Jeannie (Tony) Roos. He did not want a formal service, but we are planning a small celebration of life in Ohio in the Fall along with a separate one in Florida around the same time.
We would like to thank the care workers at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Florida for all that they did for our brother. In Jim’s memory, please consider donations to William Childs Hospice House (381 Medplex Pkwy, Palm Bay, Fl 32907).
