Obituary of Walter Anthony Nolan

Walter Anthony Nolan October 27, 1934 – January 7, 2019 Walter Anthony Nolan, late of Melbourne Beach, Florida, formerly of Norwalk, Connecticut, Long Island, New York and New York City, passed away peacefully early Monday morning at Autumn House ALF. A loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, he is survived by his current wife, Barbara, his first wife and the mother of his three children, Judy, his daughters Nancy (Brian) Fehrenbach, Jill (Sten) Westgard, grandchildren Kate, Monica, Maren, Clara, Alison, Henry and Keith, brother Ken, sister Helen Larkin, many nieces and nephews and daughter-in-law, Joy Linscheid. He is preceded in death by his son, David, sisters Catherine Levins and Mary Seghini, and brothers Frank, John, George and Arthur. Walter was born and grew up in New York City, the second youngest of nine children to parents William Nolan and Catherine Nolan, nee Coyne, both deceased. He joined the United States Navy at 17 and was honorably discharged in 1955. A graduate of Iona College in New Rochelle, NY with a degree in Economics, he went on to earn an MBA from St. Johns University in Queens, NY. He retired in 1998 after a 40 year career with TIAA-CREF, a financial services firm headquartered in New York City. Walter, known for his brilliant mind, generous spirit, sense of humor and wisdom, dispensed thoughtful advice when asked by family, friends and colleagues. His devotion to family, love of New York City, the beach, a large steak and a very dry vodka martini were legendary. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Always in our hearts, we celebrate the full life he lived to the very end and rejoice that he is now free of his long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
