Obituary of Ralph Edwin Moorhouse

Ralph Edwin Moorhouse passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2014. Born in Pekin, IL on May 6, 1929 to John and Margret Moorhouse, Ralph, a twin, was one of six children. At a young age Ralph taught himself to play the trumpet, a decision that shaped his future for decades and brought him joy whenever and where ever he played. His title of Electrical Engineer did not begin to cover his many professional accomplishments such as patent holder, laser optics designer, contributor to the first Apollo flight and many other significant contributions. Ralph was an avid collector and restorer of antique radios, holding a prized amateur radio operatorGÇÖs license (W4YR). He also collected antique steam engines, traveling far and wide to acquire them. For relaxation he often went scuba diving in Mexico. His hobbies and interests represented the breath and depth of his personality. In retirement he shared his time between the mountains of Mars Hill, NC. and the hammocks of Melbourne, enjoying nature at its best. Whether touching lives as an electrical engineer, a musical entertainer or the rock that anchored his family, there is no doubt that Ralph was a remarkable role model for his family, friends and community. He is succeeded by his wife, Judy; his son, Ralph, Jr.; his daughter, Susan; his granddaughters, Bonnie and Julianne; and one great-granddaughter; two sisters and several nieces and nephews.
