Obituary of Lisle E. Burnham
Lisle E. Burnham, age 89, of Melbourne Beach, Florida, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the Life Care Center in Melbourne, Florida.
Mr. Lisle E. Burnham was born on May 13, 1930, the son of Lisle Ernest and Mary Warren Burnham. He was a graduate of Brattleboro (VT) High School Class of 1948, graduating with his life-long friend Richard Brown. Lisle and Richard joined the US Navy together in 1949 where Lisle served as an Electronics Technician during the Korean Conflict.
Lisle met the love of his life, Edith Wetherell at a USO dance in Rhode Island. They started their lives together in June, 1953 in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1963, Lisle and Edith and their 3 children moved to Endwell NY before moving to Waldwick, NJ in 1967 where they lived for 30 years. After a 34 year career with IBM, Lisle learned the Locksmith trade working until his retirement in September, 1997 when he and Edith made the move to Melbourne Beach, Florida.
Lisle and Edith were avid tennis players and snow skiers and loved traveling the world, and in later years they picked up the sport of golf. On October 2, 2016, Lisle lost the love of his life to Alzheimer’s. Lisle made it his daily routine to visit his beloved during her 6-year stay at the Indian River Nursing Center in West Melbourne. He found comfort in the caring, compassionate and dedicated staff that cared for her through those 6 years. Lisle loved his family. He was especially proud to be called Pop-Pop by his grand children and great grandchildren.
Lisle is survived by his children, Steven Lisle and his wife Kathie (McCutcheon) of NY, Scott L of NJ, Lisa Josephson of NY; his 4 grandchildren, Dan, Melissa and Kristin of NJ, Steven Lisle and his wife Rachel (Natelli) of NJ and his 2 great grandchildren, Ezra and Travis Lisle. Mr. Burnham is also survived by his sister, Betty Mae Bond of Vermont. His siblings Laura Clementson, Sidney and McWilliam predeceased him.
A private service will take place on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida followed by a Celebration of Lisle’s life with friends and family in Mahwah, NJ at a date to be determined.
Dad, Pop-Pop, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Friend – you will be sorely missed by many but you will live in our hearts forever.
