Obituary of Roger K. Henry
Roger K. Henry, 69, of Melbourne, Florida, passed away on the morning of April 11, 2016. A beloved husband and father, Roger is survived by wife, Sally, daughter, Alexis (Jerome) Kasza, twin brother, Richard, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Roger is preceded in death by mother, Thelma Kramer Henry, father, Raymond Hector Henry, of Dillonvale, Ohio, elder brother, Gary, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, and great-nephew, Jakob Gehring, of Stow, Ohio.
Originally from Ohio, Roger was born in Martins Ferry, on March 26, 1947. He grew up in Dillonvale, and graduated from Dillonvale High School, where he was a star athlete and played many sports, including football and baseball. He attended Kent State University (KSU) and attained his Bachelor of Arts in Government Service and Master of Higher Education. His love of sports continued, and he played on the KSU baseball team. Roger was instrumental in the development of the KSU service-learning program, of which he was the Director.
Roger served his country in the United States Army Reserve, from 1971 to 1976, when he received an Honorable Discharge. He was based at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
In 1986, he and his family moved to Florida, where he continued to teach and to direct the service-learning program at Brevard Community College (BCC). Under his leadership, BCC became a national model for service-learning and community involvement innovation. Its publications and resources are used by hundreds of institutions and organizations across the country.
Roger also directed the Florida Campus Compact for seven years, helping to build an infrastructure for service-learning in the Southeastern United States.

A lifelong Cleveland Indians fan, Roger loved running, cycling, golf, and tennis, as well as horse races, beer, wings, and a good cigar. He liked to pick up a newspaper, get a coffee, and go to the bagel shop every morning. +óGé¼+ôEverybody loved Roger!+óGé¼-¥
Roger and his daughter, Alexis, shared a love of animals, especially cats. They loved to spend time together running, playing golf, and going to baseball games (Go Tribe!). After a game, they enjoyed grabbing a cold beer. They also had the same sense of humor and shared many laughs together.
Roger and his wife, Sally, liked to go to New Orleans and take walks to the beach and around the neighborhood. They enjoyed traveling, movies, restaurants, and a good joke.
As a family, they liked to go to games, play golf, see movies, and visit the track. The family also enjoyed going to the zoo. They traveled, and shared many good meals and conversations together.
The Celebration of Life for Roger K. Henry will be held at Spessard Holland golf course on Sunday, May 1st from 1-4pm. Located at 2374 Oak Street in Melbourne Beach, Florida.
Food and drinks will be served, golf will be extra if you would like to join the family to commemorate Roger after 4:00pm. Henry, for a service-learning scholarship in his name.
