Roger had the vision! He showed us the way and brought so many of us into his vision. He gave me the tools to better myself and give without expecting to receive. He was the light that the college needed, yet they did not realize his true abilities. He was one special individual that helped to make me the person I am today. Thank you Roger. You will always be loved. SLM

One of my favorite memories of my brother-in-law, Roger, is of him sitting on my couch here in Columbus, Ohio, some twenty years ago, coloring with my two young daughters. My husband, Matt, counted Roger as a friend, and when we visited Florida, the two of them would enjoy going out in the morning for bagels and coffee, and maybe a game of golf. While Roger’s heart belonged wholly to the Cleveland Indians, (Go Tribe!), he made room for Matt’s favorite team, the Ohio State Buckeyes, (Go Bucks!). My family was often treated to the “Roger tour” when we visited, in hopes that we could finally see the dolphins he always assured us were there. I always enjoyed Roger’s sense of humor and extensive vocabulary, and marveled that he made friends wherever he went. It didn’t matter if someone was homeless or an executive, he was the same engaging, helpful, interested person to all. Roger had the rare gift of loving his job and spent his life sharing his passion for service-learning with others. This will continue to have far reaching and long lasting effects. I’ll always be thankful that Roger deeply loved and was proud of my sister, Sally, and my niece, Alexis. We’re richer for having known him and will miss him deeply.

Roger was a close and trusted friend during our years together in Kent, Ohio. An exceedingly bright and gregarious chap, whom I was fortunate to have shared a plethora of memorable experiences with. Whether we we were out to dinner, at the race track, or simply talking over a drink at a bar in Kent, his love for life and for other people was passionately steadfast. The world has been diminished by his loss. Rest in peace, my dear friend.

My special thoughts go to you Sally, and family. Roger was special and a good friend to my son as well, and I remember both of your kindness to my family.

I had the pleasure of working with Roger for many years. He was an exemplary leader and visionary. He built the college’s Service Learning program from the ground up and turned it into a national model. I loved talking sports with Roger! We could banter for hours. Roger had a great sense of humor too; always up for a prank. I’m a better person as a result of knowing Roger. I miss him already. My prayers are with his family during this difficult time.

Roger was a very special person. He accomplished a lot and was always humble. He never needed a spotlight or bullhorn. He simply, and quietly, went about the serious business of helping others. He will be missed. My condolences to the family for your loss.
