Obituary of Norman George Lacher
Norman George Lacher, Jr. arrived at the bus stop far too early. He didn’t want to leave but when the bus showed up on May 2nd, 2018 with his father, Norman George Lacher, Sr., his dog Bandit and his cat Twink who pre-deceased him, he had to go. Remaining behind and waiting for later buses are his mother Betty Jo Elizabeth Lacher, his daughter Kara Marie Barnhart and husband Josh, his favorite wife Laura Jeanine Lacher and stepchildren Sarah, Emily, and Alexander Catalina and Connor Smoot as well as his siblings, Suzanne Schmidt and husband Dave, Mimi Rehbein and husband Milton, Paul Lacher and wife Carol, Josef Lacher and wife Joanne, Roxanne Cargile and husband Donald and Jackie Zinkhan and husband Mike. He is also survived by four grandchildren (his babies), numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Born in the summer of ’57 May 7th at St. Joseph’s Hospital; he was brought to a brand new home in Hawthorne. Summers were spent visiting his grandparent’s house in Bowley’s Quarters, swimming, fishing and crabbing. He attended and graduated from Our Lady of Mount Carmel. He was active in the Boy Scouts troupe 355. He decided to leave the boy scouts to help out with the Girl Scouts. This was the beginning of his lifelong courtship with women! Hustling buggies at the Acme Food Market was his first job. His entrepreneurial spirit shined as he sold Drink Me Pop products while in high school. Closed down by Soda Man for taking his business, he began to sell candy to his classmates. After graduating high school, he went to college for one year and decided to explore the world complements of the United States Army. After 3 years, he left active duty for the reserves. He joined the United States Navy after becoming an LPN and served as a corpsman. He was stationed in Germany, San Diego, Portsmouth and Fort Knox. He was attached to the 2nd Battalion 3rd Marine Division for Desert Shield, Desert Storm during the liberation of Kuwait. He was best known as the crazy corpsman who protected the camp from an enemy camel invasion! By the way, camels are expensive! After retiring from the military, he took his exceptional skills to General Electric and worked for them for 13 years. He was diagnosed shortly after leaving GE with a retroperitoneal sarcoma. Pulling that crappy C card didn’t slow him down until the very end. He loved life and brought laughter and happiness (as long as you didn’t talk politics) wherever he went. He loved naps, his family, CNN and MSNBC. Unbeknownst to many his favorite slogan was ITMFA.
If you have read this you will know that Norman wrote it! He requested that you consider a donation to Planned Parenthood or the ACLU in his name, in lieu of flowers.
The viewing will be on Monday, May 7, 2018 from 7pm-9pm at Connelly Funeral Home Of Essex.
