Luciano Spitale

Obituary of Luciano Spitale

Luciano (Lou) Spitale, 83, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at a hospital near his home in Melbourne, FL. Born to Charles (Charlie) and Julianna (Nellie) Spitale on October 9, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY. Lou is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janice Nelson Spitale, his son Wayne Spitale, daughter Susan (Chris) Precht, and daughter Dana (Mark) Levesque. He leaves behind his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters and brothers (in law), nieces and nephews, and friends. Lou lived a life full of adventure. Beginning as a Merchant Marine at age 15, Lou sailed around the world delivering goods and assisting the Korean War effort. He enjoyed his life as a sailor, but traded in his sea legs when he began dating his life mate, Janice Nelson. Janice and Lou were married in Brooklyn, NY. Janice was the love of his life. Lou also served as a police officer, as well as a firefighter in NYC before returning to school to study electronics. Lou could fix and repair anything and his family benefited from his ingenuity. In addition, Lou was an avid reader and educated himself through the years in literature and history. He especially loved American history and the classics. He was a true patriot. He instilled his love of learning in his children and grandchildren. Lou, also known as Pop-Pop by his grandchildren, would often tell Janice as they aged, “The ride is almost over and I don’t want to get off.” Unfortunately, he got off the ride sooner than expected. He will be immensely missed by his family and friends for whom he deeply loved. Lou and Jan married very young. Together, hand in hand, they raised a beautiful family and worked hard to give their children everything they could. They shared their love with plenty of laughter and joy. Their favorite song was, “They tried to tell us we’re too young”. Once in a while they would look around at their lives and what they had accomplished together and say, “Hey, not too bad for a couple of kids from Brooklyn!” There will be no funeral service at this time. A memorial gathering to celebrate Lou’s life is planned for a future date. The Spitale family thanks you for your condolences and prayers.  In lieu of flowers we would ask for your prayers.
