Obituary of Shirley R. Goulet

Shirley Rachel Goulet, resident of Viera, Florida formerly of Merritt Island, Florida died on Wednesday October 3, 2018 at Viera Hospital at the age of 82. Born in Berlin, New Hampshire on March 24, 1936 to the late Joseph Emile Goulet and Rose Aline Dupuis. Shirley graduated from St. Mary’s High School and was employed at the shoe factory in Livermore Falls, Maine. She was married to the late Joseph A.L. Gagnon, Jr. of Lewiston, ME. They married at Saint James the Greater Church in Island Pond, VT in 1957 and moved to Merritt Island in 1964. Shirley was a loving housewife and mother. She was interested in photography and loved having her picture taken. She enjoyed camping with the family on the weekends and loved to travel. Her employment started at Krystals, morning shift making the grits! In the evenings she worked for a janitorial contractor and then at the House of Mosaics in Cocoa Beach. Later she became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) working in private homes caring for the sick and elderly. Shirley was a member in the Rocket Post VFW #4534 Aux. Rockledge, FL. She enjoyed her “puzzle books,” crossword and word search books. She loved attending auctions, creating box lots, attending fairs and old car shows. She also enjoyed reading her romance novels. She will be fondly remembered by her four children; Lou Ann Gagnon-Vosgien, Cocoa, FL; Dawn Gagnon, Cocoa, FL; Cathy Forino (Lou), Merritt Island, FL; and loving son, Jeffrey Gagnon (Ana) of Pt. St. Lucie, FL. Maurice Goulet, her only brother resides in Island Pond, VT. She is also survived by four grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Her kind and gentle spirit will be lovingly remembered by all her friends at Your Second Home Adult Day Care and The Towne Square ALF. “We all remember her as being feisty, friendly and spunky.” A Celebration of Life will be held on Sat. November 3 from 1-4 at 1020 Harbor Pines Dr., Merritt Island, FL. Bring some stories and memories you would like to share with the family.
