God blessed me with 2 women 4.5 years ago. The first time I met mom, Cathy and I drove to her house to pick her up and bring her over by us for dinner. I was very nervous to say the least. When I approached the door mom gave me a look that – if looks could kill I’d be dead on the spot! In a few short months, I became her “Lulla Bell” and she became my mom. I always liked playing cards with her and Cathy after dinner. And the times I thought of letting her win – wasn’t necessary… She used to kick my ass! I miss you mom. I miss your crazy laughter, your weird jokes and your sinister smile. Rest in peace mom, tell everybody Cathy and I say hi. Love, your son, Lulla Bell.

Dearest Mom-
I need to tell you how much fun I have shared with you these last seven years. Just a joyous time. You took care of me when I was young and I was happy to reciprocate that love as you grew older. And you would say wiser of course. Or was that age before beauty? Haha, we would always laugh. You provided a loving home for your children and you gave use the freedom to grow into amazing individuals. Our weekend camping trips to Sebastian were a blast. Did you always take and make the “Wacky” cake you were famous for? Smile. Christmas was your favorite time of year and I will always remember the joy in the house. Yes, the younger children always thought you favored the oldest child but that’s ok… we made it through…LOL. First car, NEW bikes, first white go-go boots.. brand NEW clothes…
In retrospect I see you in each one of us. Your son thinks he’s a riot and “really, really funny,” just ask him. We all got that from you. Your kind heart showed me patience; another strong character trait of yours. You were always cutting up and making silly faces and comments. People you were surrounded with found you humorous, witty and exclaimed “she’s a hoot!”
A day without Shirley was a day without sunshine. That comment seems to describe you best. You absolutely loved your family at daycare with Andrea and Rays. They adopted you as their grandmother. You had many friends and cohorts at your ALF and you brighten their days.
I can say honestly I never saw you have a bad day even when you broke your hip. You always had your eye on the younger handsome doctors and nurses (Sean in particular); such a cougar Mom! Too funny. When I saw you each day you always had a smile on your pretty face. I never saw you upset or flustered as you would say. I get my strength, kindness, laughter and smile from you. I will share my great memories with your grandchildren. We have the hope of the resurrection and we will talk, laugh and love again.
