Obituary of Dominick Zack

Dominick (Dom) Zack, age 84, of Bradenton, Florida passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018. Dom was born on Nov. 23, 1933 in Stamford, CT, son of the late Dominick and Lillian (Delmerico) Zack. He married his loving wife Constance (Conley) Zack, whom he met at a YMCA dance while in the Air Force and stationed Lake Charles, Louisiana. One dance was all it took, and the result was the enjoyment of 63 years of marriage. Dom would fondly tell stories of his service time in Morocco, Africa. He used the GI Bill to attend and graduate from University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Science. While earning his degree, Dom and Connie had two sons, Greg and Jeff. After graduation, they picked up and moved to Norwalk, Connecticut, the area where Dom was born and raised. In addition to teaching, Dom also coached High School football, and football remained a passion his entire life. He was also a member of the United States Coast Guard Reserves. In time, the family moved to 45 acres on Cobb Hill, Moretown, Vermont and Dom worked as an Industrial Arts teacher at Harwood Union High School until his retirement, a teaching career spanning 37 years. At Harwood, he was affectionately known as “Zack”. His talent in teaching building technology, mechanical drafting, and woodworking helped many of his students launch careers in the building trades, engineering and architecture. His second job was as an artist, creating wildlife forms from old farm and machinery castoffs, selling them nationwide at art shows and galleries. These can still be seen around the area and are a cherished memory of his family. Dom’s hobbies included hunting, sailing, model boat and plane building, wild life photography and cooking. He built many sea worthy vessels for his grandsons, and in conjunction with his two cohorts, Gary and Loren, built a forty-five foot ocean going yacht. His greatest love was spending time with his grandsons and teaching them the ways of the world. Dom is survived by his wife Connie Zack; their sons Gregory and Jeffrey (Vicki); their grandson Anthony (Vanessa); brother William (Lavinia); sister Angela (Elwin) Neill; nephews David (Denise) and Forrest, nieces Lisa (Jimmy) and Tricia (Shawn); great nieces and nephews Elsa, Dylan, James, Ben and Eoin. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his grandson Colin.
