Obituary of Thomas “Tom” Stanley Stouch
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas “Tom” Stanley Stouch, aged 81. Tom passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, June 1, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to parents Lewis and Miriam Stouch, and is the third of six children.
At 17 years of age, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served during the Korean War. He was proud of all branches of the military as they represented a commitment and sacrifice to his Country, of which he was always so proud. In 1969 he moved to Titusville, Florida where he met and married the love of his life, Nancy, where they shared 48 remarkable years of marriage, until his passing. What can be said about a man who not only marries a woman with six children but then decides to adopt them all? Some might say “what an amazingly wonderful man,” and others might say “he’s nuts.” But maybe he was a little of both. He was a very special “Dad” that’s for sure! Tom was a family man if there ever was one. He dedicated his life to his family and his devotion to his wife was undeniable. He enjoyed road-trips, cruises, football, old western shows, pork chops, homemade chocolate chip cookies, and Meyers Rum…and not necessarily in that order.
Most will remember Tom as one of Brevard County Sheriff’s Department’s finest officers. He was in law enforcement for 35 years, 32 of which was fighting crime and protecting the citizens of Brevard County. He loved his community and was proud of it. Tom was “old school” and took great pride in his profession. He was tough, yet fair, and people throughout the county knew and respected him. Work was no stranger to Tom. While pursuing his career in law enforcement, he managed to build twelve homes, four of which were his own, all the while earning his Bachelor’s degree from UCF. During this time of working full-time, raising a large family and attending college he was given the prestigious honor of “Deputy of the Year Award”! In 2001 he retired as Major from Brevard County Sheriff’s Department.
Tom was a strong presence and would light up a room with his winsome smile. His amusing jokes, along with his comical facial expressions, would have us laughing with tears. We could sit for hours and listen to him tell stories of his past. Stories of him growing up, the military, police adventures, his travels, and of course his golf stories. He loved golf and he thought the world of his “golfing buddies.” There will forever be an empty space on the golf course.
Tom was a special person, a special face, a special someone that cannot be replaced. The pain of our loss shows what he has given us, whether it’s a corny joke or a piece of life’s lessons that will be passed down for generations to come.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Nancy L.; six daughters, Lynne C. Van Eaton and husband Leonard, Debi L. Jodts and husband Fred, Kimberly J. Akins and husband Joe, Kelly Summers and husband Ron, Leslie A. Rothering and husband Mike, Selena M. Aldrich and husband Larry; one son, Robert R. Stouch; 14 Grandchildren; 14 Great grandchildren; Siblings Phillis J. Davis, wife of Ronald Davis (deceased.), Lewis C Stouch Jr. and wife Patricia, James E. Stouch and wife Gail, John R. Stouch and wife Denise, Sue Shaub and husband Tom; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Miriam Stouch.
