Obituary of Mary Anne Minor

Mary Anne Minor, age 76, of Melbourne, FL, passed away after a valiant fight on October 3, 2018 in St Augustine, FL at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.  Mary Anne was born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts and was a 1960 graduate of Sacred Heart High School. Soon after high school, Mary Anne met her husband-to-be, Edward Minor, and they married on August 12, 1961. They began their married life in Springfield before moving to Chicopee, MA where they raised three daughters. Her greatest joy in life was undoubtedly her family and her most important role was raising her three girls.  However, she did hold a variety of other jobs through the years as well, including working as a “proofreader” for the Wall Street Journal.  Mary Anne also had a keen interest in politics and served as an Alderwoman in the city of Chicopee.  Mary Anne was an avid reader.  She always had a stack of books to be read nearby and would say there were too many books and too little time.  She also loved puzzles and playing both card and board games, eventually moving to computer based games. Mary Anne fulfilled her lifelong dream of retiring to Florida in the late 1990s, when she moved from Chicopee to Melbourne. She was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her daughters, Julie Minor, her partner Shelley Rodden, and their sons Ben & Wyatt of Satellite Beach, FL; Lisa Degutis and husband Michael of St. Augustine, FL; Kim Minor of East Hampton, Connecticut; and her faithful four-legged companion, Allie. Mary Anne was preceded in death by her husband Edward Minor. Services will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Ammen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S Hickory Street, Melbourne, FL 32901. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Francis, 4875 N. Wickham Road, Suite 107 Melbourne, Florida 32940. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
