We are an immigrant family neighbor of Ed, Mary Anne and Allie. Allie would stop at our driveway, when Ed was walking Allie, and we started to talk: Ed and I and Aira. Allie just lay on the lawn. Usual neighborly stuff. Weather, weeds, mundane Life. Allie started and stopped the conversation. After Ed passed Allie brought Mary Anne’s difficulties home to us. For the 2 years before we moved I would force Mary Anne to let me walk Allie in the evenings. A Rent-A-Dog arrangement. I missed not having a dog at home, and Mary Anne submitted to my evening appearances: rain, hail or shine. Over time Mary Anne and I grew to know each other intellectually. She was a wonderful conversationalist, we fleetingly discussed many universal questions. She had a wonderful armory of words. To close I just want to say. Immigrants are a little like mistletoe. The family oak is way over there somewhere, but if a family oak becomes available in our new country, we latch on.
We want to thanks Julie, Lisa and Kim for allowing us to be a part of the Allie Minor family.
