Obituary of Sidney Francis “Frank” Smith

Sidney Francis “Frank” Smith III, 76, died March 12, 2020 at the William Child’s Hospice House in Palm Bay, Florida after a 15 years battle with lymphoma. Sid will be honored with a military service on Saturday, March 28, 2020 at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, 1001 South Hickory Street, Melbourne, Florida. Services will begin at 3 p.m. Sidney will be interred in Day Den Shing Columbarium at Karme Ling Retreat Center, Dehli, New York. Sidney was born February 29, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Seraphina (Gangemi) Smith and Francis Sidney Smith. Sid entered the United States Army in 1964 and served in Viet Nam as member of the Long Range Recognizance Patrol where he was awarded a Bronze Star among other accommodations. Sidney earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Eckerd College where he was honored with a National Endowment for the Arts to teach Physics of Light to elementary school children. Sidney also spent many years in and out of Palenque and San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico learning Mayan history and culture. A large portion of Sid’s life was event productions with two of his most memorial projects being the Miami Film Festival (1984-2004) and VietVet Views. After moving to Melbourne, Florida in 2004 Sidney married Terriee (Hochstine) Smith and became step-father to their three children. Sidney not only had a passion for art, martial arts, and philosophy he was also an avid poker player. One of Sid’s passions was being “Papa” to his 3 granddaughters. Sidney was preceded in death by his father Francis Sidney Smith and his adopted brother Larry Smith. Sid is survived by his mother Seraphina (Gangemi) Smith; brother Scott Smith, sister Leslie (Smith) Bean, and his nephew Nathan Otiz along with many other extended family members. Sid also leaves behind his wife, step-daughters Jonelle (Kriss) Lockwood and Kayla (Kriss) Nolf and his 3 grandchildren Sofia Kriss, Leia Lockwood, and Maddison Nolf. Sidney touched many lives and there are many friends who will remember him fondly.
