Obituary of Gerald L. Perkins

Gerald L. (Jerry) Perkins passed away at his home on Friday, October 19, 2018 at the age of 78.
Born in Maine in 1940 Jerry moved to Melbourne/Palm Bay in 1968 to work at Harris Corporation (then Radiation).
Jerry founded the Harris Composites Lab, won numerous awards and citations, and rose to the level of Sr. Associate Principle Engineer over his 35 year career. He retired in 2003.
Jerry, known around town as SIDEHACK JERRY, was to say the least, a Harley motorcycle enthusiast. He was also a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan. Jerry was previously involved with ABATE, played Santa at the Harley dealership’s Children’s Christmas Party, and was the creator of the monthly “Sidehack Gazette” that he emailed to friends & family to keep them up-to-date on the happenings around the county. Jerry was also a member of the American Legion Post #81. Jerry was a veteran of the United States Army who served his country honorably.
Jerry was a proud father of two daughters Tammy (Dave) and Jennifer (Jovan); an even prouder Grandfather to Kady (Matt), Jodi (Angel) and Jozelyn and was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first great-grandchild Sebastian. He is also survived by his sisters Kathy and Barbara and their families.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father Martin, his oldest son Michael and his sister Grace.
Please join us on Friday, October 26, 2018 for Jerry’s final ride. Starting at Earl’s Hideaway, 1405 Indian River Dr. in Sebastian. Kickstands up at 1:00 pm. Ending at American Legion Post #81, 2909 S. Harbor City Blvd in Melbourne. His service will start at 2:00 pm.
