Obituary of James C. Brush
Rockledge- James C. Brush, 77 passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2019, peacefully at Wuesthoff Hospice.
Born in Walton, N.Y. his parents were Margaret and Eugene Brush. He moved to the Rockledge area after graduating from S.U.N.Y at Albany N.Y. in 1964.
A teacher and church organist he began teaching French at Merritt Island High, and continued to do so for the next 35 years. He loved teaching but his other passion was playing the organ. Shortly after moving to the area he got a job as Church Organist and choir director at St. Marks Episcopal Church in Cocoa Village, a position he held for almost 20 years. Many people may remember his Brown Bag Concerts every Thursday afternoon. After leaving St. Marks he then went to St. Lukes Episcopal Church on Merritt Island, a position he held for 10 years.
His family includes his husband and companion of 35 years Steven D. Emerson of Rockledge; a brother, George and his wife Dee of Williamsburg, VA; nephew, Mark Brush and his wife Kim of Williamsburg, VA; great nephews, Daniel and Zachary and great niece Elizabeth, all of Willamsburg, VA.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 4 Church St., Cocoa, FL. With a reception to follow in the church hall.
