Obituary of Danal Christian “the Chief” Wiese
Danal Christian Wiese, GÇ£the ChiefGÇ¥, peacefully passed away on February 20, 2014 while waiting for a liver transplant. He was born In Atlanta, GA on May 11, 1945 and raised in Detroit, MI and Honolulu, HI. He graduated from Radford High School in Honolulu in 1963.
Dan enlisted in the US Navy soon after graduation. He graduated from the US Navy EOD and Dive Schools and spent some time in Mekong Delta, Republic of Vietnam, later finding his way into the Submarine Navy. He was stationed aboard the fleet submarines USS Bream (SS 243) and USS Grouper (SS 214). He graduated from Guided Missile School in Dam Neck, VA as a Missile Technician. During his time in the Navy, Dan made 10 war patrols aboard the Missile Submarine, USS Robert E Lee SSBN 601, five war patrols aboard the Missile Submarine, USS Patrick Henry SSBN 599, and also two war patrols aboard the Missile Submarine, USS Ethan Allen SSBN 608.
While on shore duty he became an Instructor at the Sub School in New London, CT; where his son Ty Christian was born in 1972. Dan was the first of his rate to be sent to Washington D.C. to be a Navy Detailer. While there, he wrote the orders for all Missile Technicians in the U.S. Navy 1977 -1980. Later Dan was a member of Special Projects 205, stationed at Cape Canaveral, FL. He also helped write most of the casualty procedures used aboard all Trident Class Submarines today.
He retired from the Navy in 1984 with 21 years of service while then living in Satellite Beach, Fl. Next he received his MasterGÇÖs Degree in Education from University of Central Florida. He taught sixth and seventh grades for 24 years in Brevard County Public Schools; Sea Park Elementary, DeLaura Middle, and Sunrise Elementary. He also taught graduate courses for Florida Southern College.
Dan married Laurel Susan Turgeon on August 23, 1969 in Taftville, CT. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Laurel Wiese; his son, Ty Christian Wiese, Lt. Commander, stationed in San Diego, CA and his wife Stephanie; his mother Joyce (Williams) Wiese of HI; four grandchildren, Sidney, Madison, Luke and Mica; his brother Mark (Cyndy) Wiese of HI; sisters, Kathleen Wiese-Reeber (Roy) of HI; Marta Weise-Rounds (Mike) of HI; as well as several nieces and nephews in HI, AL and CT. He was proceeded in death by his father, Robert E. Wiese of HI.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 pm, March 7, 2014, at Sunrise Elementary, 1651 Mara Loma Blvd, Palm Bay, Florida.
