Mr. Wiese was one of the best teachers I ever had, and his teaching is still with me. He was my teacher in 2001. To this day, when I hear the name of a country mentioned I immediately can picture where it is on a world map, all thanks to Mr. Wiese. He taught us the location, flag, and capital of every country on Earth.

Its Veterans Day so I wanted to say thanks to Dan for his service to our great country. Every month Dan’s old poker gang starts out with a tribute by playing his favorite 7 card stud 7’s wild and we each share a favorite story about Dan.

Even though you lived 5000 miles away from us, there was always a “secure” feeling that you were there if we ever needed you. Now, you have made a transition from the physical to the spiritual, but you are still with us…..you are just “checking things out”
When I see beautiful blue skies with swaying palm trees and turquoise waters, mountains with misty clouds passing over them and an infinite amount of stars in the evening sky. I know you are a part of this.
“Life IS eternal, Love is immortal and Death is only a horizon…” These are words from the Carly Simon song “Life is Eternal” You are not far away……just beyond my sight and beyond the horizon. Love you!

You left us shortly after high school graduation and we did not see very much of you for the next 21 years while you were in the Navy. Therefore, it was surprising for us to learn that you decided to go to college. We are very proud of you. Not only did you earn high marks while earning your BS, but also a MA and developed into a terrific teacher with many good original ideas that effected the lives of many others. More importantly, it gave you and I a mutual topic of discussion. You will be missed.

To the Florida “ohana” of my big brother, Dan Wiese, I say Mahalo for being there for him and Laurel. He is now free of pain and hopefully at peace. After he entered the Navy, I was told not to call him “Danny” anymore as that was not macho. However, he will always be “Danny” to me. This is only an earthly farewell as we will meet again. Aloha Nui Loa.

Shocking news! The “Big Kahuna” was invinceable, just like the rest of us “Chiefs”. Dan was truly one of the “Good Guys”, always a trusted shipmate and dear friend. Nothing but great memories from Hawaii & NOTU. Farewell to the Chief! Smooth sailing & following seas. Deepest sympathy to Laura & Ty (and all of the family). As Always, Al d.
