Obituary of Reuben Eugene “Gene” Clark
Reuben Eugene Clark (Gene), 90, of Melbourne, FL (former resident of Sandwich, IL) died Friday, May 31, 2019 at Melbourne Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Florida. He was born to Kenneth and Grace (Douglas) Clark on August 6, 1928 near Mineral, Illinois.
He is survived by his daughter Janice (Clark) Horton of Melbourne, FL; his son, Terry (Kathy) Clark of Cocoa, FL; brother, Kenneth Clark, Jr. of Kewanee, IL; 7 grandchildren, Mike (Staci) Jackson of Ann Arbor, MI, Karie (Gary) Brunswick of Leland,IL, Tammy (Jason) Rose of Kiowa, Co, Nicole (Mike) Pommier of Cocoa, FL, Christina Clark and Jennifer Price both of Palm Bay, FL, and Joe (Jaime) Clark of Cocoa, FL; 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
He married Margene Mary Gay on January 22, 1949 in Kewanee, IL. He served his country in the Kewanee National Guard. He worked most of his life as a Machinist and retired from the Aurora Caterpillar Tractor Co after 30 years.
Gene and Margene retired and moved from Sandwich, IL to Melbourne, FL. There they met many new friends at the Village Glenn Mobile Home Community where they lived. Gene could often be found relaxing in his recliner with his word search and crossword puzzles. Heaven help the one that “borrowed” his special pen!
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margene; daughter, Sharon Nikkle of Sandwich, IL, 4 sisters and 4 brothers.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at the Leland Cemetery (North of town on Leland Road), Pastor Ted Engelsdorfer officiating. Following the service there will be a Celebration of Life gathering in Sandwich (address and map will be available following the service).
