Since learning of Merry’s passing, my mind has been flooded with wonderful memories of my first and long-time friend. The Stenboms and Kupecs lived directly across the alley from each other in Oak Lawn. Merry and I shared the sandbox in my backyard, and we honed our climbing skills on the nearby cherry tree, too. My first two-wheeler was a hand-me-down from her brother, Bob. My first b-ball hoop was built and installed on my family’s garage by our fathers. Merry and I were in kindergarten together. In high school, Merry was a spirited and loyal cheerleader for the sport teams on which I played. As adults, our paths crossed in Los Angeles, where we both worked, and in OL for class reunions. Whenever we visited, we were able to resume our last conversation as if no time at all had elapsed. I am blessed that Merry was my friend. Merry will forever remain in my thoughts and prayers.
