Obituary of Margaret Gorman Nelson
Margaret Gorman Nelson – known to friends and family as Peggy, 85, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024. She fought like a warrior through pancreatic and lung cancer. Peggy was born and raised in Mendota, IL. Married her “blind date”, Dave, settled in Plano, IL to raise the family, transferred to Brownsville, TX for 10 years, and then retired to Rockledge, FL. She is survived by three of her children, Dick (Donna Flynn) Nelson, John (Chris) Nelson, and Patty (Doug) Heller; her grandchildren, Austin (Nicole) Nelson, Nicholas (Brenna) and Maggie Heller (their dad, Dan Heller), Emily (Troy) Tluchak, Alex (Devin) Heller, Mitch (Emily) Nelson, Jack (Emily) Nelson, and Ben Nelson; and many great grandchildren. Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, sister, her husband, Dave Nelson, her daughter, Cathy Heller, and her grandson, Tyler Nelson. Peggy was a daughter, sister, aunt, friend, neighbor, wife, and mother. Embracing each role fully. She was a true caregiver, at her happiest when she could cook and fuss over loved ones. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024, Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota, IL @ 11am – where Peggy and Dave’s remains will be laid to rest together. A small gathering will be held afterwards at 920 Kensey Ct, Plano, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to your local Humane Society in Peggy’s memory.
