Obituary of Jean Claude Guay

In loving memory of Jean Claude Guay "Claude" 89, of Barefoot Bay, FL who passed in his home on May 16, 2022. He left behind his wife, Alberta A. Guay (Bertha, now joined together in Heaven). Claude and Bertha were married for almost 68 years.

Claude was born on February 3, 1933, and raised in Lac Megantic Canada. He married his wife Bertha in their hometown, and moved to Fitchburg MA, where they raised their family until retiring to FL in 1993.

Claude was predeceased by his mother and father, Gracienne and Leo-Paul Guay, a brother, Benoit Guay, and 12 brothers and sisters-in-laws and their spouses. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Bob and Lucy Leclerc of Vero Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Lise and Laval Carrier of Lac Megantic, Canada; and many nieces and nephews, including niece, Denise Giguere of Vero Beach, FL.

Claude left behind four children; Sylvie and husband Joe Thibeault of New Salem, MA, Joanne and husband Mike Caissey of Fitchburg, MA, Larry and wife Shelly Guay of Palm Bay, FL, and Lucie Guay of Melbourne, FL.

Grandchildren are Samantha and Anthony Caron, Natalie and Jeff Reynolds, Aaron and Ashley Thibeault, Ashley and Dan LeBarre, Tyler and Jessica Caissey, Alissa and Howard Waller, Derek Laviolette (predeceased), Adam Laviolette, and Ashley Bonner and husband Cory Colbert, as well as several great-grandchildren.

Lovingly referred to in his family as Papa, Claude was a dedicated husband and father who loved his family dearly. He left behind a legacy of fun and laughter.

While living in MA and raising his family, Claude worked at Century Plastics for 25 years. As the children got older, he and Bertha liked to travel to FL for vacations and decided to move to Barefoot Bay. Claude continued to work until he was 88 and was a valued employee at Publix for 24 years in Sebastian. Their community in FL offered everything for an active couple, and they truly loved living there. Claude was a member of The Knights of Columbus in MA and here in FL and became a member of the Moose Club and the Canadian Club when they came to FL.

Claude and Bertha spent many years dancing the nights away with family and friends. They enjoyed years of dance functions in Canada, MA, as well as having attended the many functions held in Barefoot Bay, FL

Claude was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fitchburg, MA and joined St. Sebastian Catholic church here in FL, where he attended regularly.

Claude’s service was held at St. Francis Catholic Church in Sebastian, FL, shortly after he passed in 2022. God Bless.
