Obituary of Alberta A. "Bertha" Guay
Alberta A. Guay "Bertha", 90, of Barefoot Bay, FL, joined the Lord on April 6, 2024. Bertha is predeceased by her husband, Jean Claude Guay (Claude), whom she was married to for almost 68 years, her mother and father, Eva and Hippolyte Leclerc, as well as by 12 brothers and sisters and their spouses.
Bertha was born on September 12, 1933, and raised in Lac Megantic, Canada. She married her husband Claude in their hometown, and moved to Fitchburg MA, where they raised their family until retiring to FL in 1993.
She is survived by her brother Bob and Lucy Leclerc of Vero Beach, FL; sister, Lise and Laval Carrier of Lac Megantic, Canada; and many nieces and nephews, including Denise Giguere of Vero Beach, FL.
Bertha leaves behind four children: Sylvie and Joe Thibeault, of New Salem, MA, Joanne and Mike Caissey, of Fitchburg, MA, Larry and Shelly Guay of Palm Bay, FL, and Lucie Guay of Melbourne, FL.
Grandchildren are Samantha and Anthony Caron, Natalie and Jeff Reynolds, Aaron and Ashley Thibeault, Ashley and Dan LeBarre, Tyler and Jessica Caissey, Alissa and Howard Waller, Derek Laviolette (predeceased), Adam Laviolette, and Ashley Bonner and husband Cory Colbert, as well as several great-grandchildren.
Lovingly referred to in her family as Mama, Bertha was a dedicated wife and mother who loved her family dearly. She spent many years with all the grandchildren and left them with many precious memories.
While living in MA and raising her family, Bertha worked at Century Plastics and Victory Button part-time. As the children got older, she and her husband liked to travel to FL for vacations and they decided to move to Barefoot Bay. Their community in FL offered everything for an active couple and she and Claude truly loved living there. Bertha was a member of the Ladies Water Aerobics and The Red Hat Club for many years.
Bertha spent many years dancing the nights away with Claude, and family and friends. Claude was a member of The Knights of Columbus in MA and here in FL, as well as becoming a member of the Moose Club and the Canadian Club when they came to FL. They enjoyed years of dance functions in Canada, MA, as well as having attended the many functions held in Barefoot Bay, FL
Bertha was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fitchburg, MA and joined St. Sebastian Catholic church here in FL where she attended regularly until her health declined.
Bertha’s funeral service will be held 11 AM on April 26, 2024, at Covenant Church, 760 Emerson Dr. NE, Palm Bay, FL 32907.
