Obituary of Sharon Mathias Shumate

Sharon Mathias Shumate, 82 went peacefully to her eternal home on April 5, 2024.  

Sharon was born January 11, 1942 to Charles and Mamie Sager in Mathias, West Virginia.  Sharon made Brevard County her permanent home in the late 1970's, settling in Rockledge.  She was employed at Rockledge High School for twenty years before enjoying her retirement years.

Sharon is survived by her Step Father, Robert Johnson of Broadway, Virginia; sisters, Carolyn Burrough of Broadway, Virginia,  Sandra Stewart of Mathias, West Virginia; her children, Ralph Donald Mathias Jr., Elizabeth Turko of Melbourne, Florida; Step daughters, Lorraine Mathias Clutteur, and Patricia McDorman both residing in Harrisonburg,  Virginia; six grandchildren and other extended family.

Sharon lived a full,  vibrant life filled with treasured memories with family, friends,  and beloved dogs. She will be remembered for her love of fun times,  her laughter, and her smile.

Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Carmitas Care and Wuestoff Hospice Team for their loving care during her battle with vascular dementia. Also, dedicated visits from her long time Pastor Bob Arthurs of Merritt Assembly of God.

Rest in eternal peace. For this is not goodbye,  but rather see you again.  You will be deeply missed but never forgotten by those who loved you.
