Obituary of Yvonne R Gilkes

Yvonne R. Gilkes, 82, passed away on Saturday, February 24th, 2024. She was born in Decatur, Georgia where she grew up and later moved to Melbourne, Florida in 1978 with her husband and children where it has been her home ever since.  Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents, Foster and Lettie Robinson, her husband, Russell Gilkes and their daughter, Cindy Norton. She is survived by her sons, Michael, Rob and Eric Gilkes, grandchildren Kyra Norton, Jacquelyn, Jeremy, Jacob, Elizabeth, Robin, and Matthew Gilkes and her 4 great grandchildren.
 
Yvonne spent most of her life here in Melbourne, where her family was her pride and joy. Yvonne could always be found out on a walk in the woods with her husband, Russ, or in the yard gardening. She also loved reading, sewing, crocheting and spending time with family. 
 
A Celebration of Life will be held at the VFW Post #4206 located at 3201 Dairy Road, Melbourne, FL 32904 on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024 at 2:30pm.
To honor Yvonne's life, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, as it was one of her and Russ' favorite places.
