Obituary of Santo William Amato

Santo William Amato, 86, of Rockledge, Florida, passed away at home on Sunday, February 25, 2024. He was born July 14, 1937, in Highland Park, Michigan.

 

Santo was a loving and beloved husband survived by Kathleen Amato. He is also survived by his sister, Mary (Donnie) McBride, sisters-in-law, Carol Amato, Marilyn (Doug) Powell, Elaine (late Eddie) Malwitz and brother-in-law, Lawrence Cmolach; nieces: April (Eddie) Niemic, Lisa (Cliff) Hittinger, Jamie (Mike) Yarborough, Kristy (Jason) Indish, Megan (MIke) Goyette and Brienna (Chris) Novak; nephews: Dennis (Vicki) Amato, Mark (Michelle) Amato, Matthew (Brenda) Amato, Ty (Melissa) Garrow, Ryan (Crystal) Malwitz and Tory Lackie, as well as many great-nieces,  great-nephews and cherished friends.

 

Santo was truly the most loving, caring and kindest gentleman one could hope to meet. He lived his life to the fullest, filled others lives with love and laughter. He loved golfing, cooking,  entertaining with parties and no one went hungry when he hosted. Bellavia by Chuck Mangione was his favorite tune.

 

Santo attended Gesu Primary School and Visitation High School in Detroit, Michigan. Santo served in the U.S. Army from February 1961-1963.

 

In his career, Santo was a restauranteur/bar owner of the Oak Gardens in Detroit, Michigan, a sous-chef in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and manager of Forest Village RV Park in Cocoa, Florida before retiring in July 2009.

 

Santo worshipped as Roman Catholic. Santo was pre-deceased by parents, William J. and Margaret Amato; brothers, Robert and Dennis; brother-in-law, Eddie Malwitz; sister-in-law, Sharon Amato; and nephew, Treg Garrow.

No memorial is planned at this time. In lieu of floral tributes, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit, Michigan.

 

The Amato family is being assisted by Ammen Family Cremation & Funeral Care in Rockledge, Florida.
