Obituary of Maureen Cassidy Reneau
Maureen Cassidy Reneau passed away peacefully at Pineapple Garden in Rockledge on Monday, January 29th.
She was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts on April 22nd, 1946, & being the eldest of 7 children, teaching came naturally to her. Maureen’s family moved to PAFB when she was in high school, & she graduated from Satellite High School, met the love of her life (Jon D. Reneau, Sr.), & married in 1965! She had 3 children: Jon, Jr. (Jen), Sean (Kristina), & Michele (J.P.), & nothing made her happier than raising her family!
Teaching her children reignited those gifts that came so naturally to her as the oldest child… & a lifelong mission of teaching & serving children across Central Brevard County began. Maureen was a Teacher Assistant for many years at Mila Elementary, only to enroll at UCF & graduate with her degree in Elementary & Exceptional Education. Not long after her graduation, Maureen was hired by Golfview Elementary School & was given her own classroom where she faithfully & tirelessly taught & served the children & their families for over 35 years! Along with teaching & leading clubs & activities, Maureen also served as the Union Representative for many years; she was multiple-time Teacher of the Year; & she taught her students with special needs with passion, dedication, & love.
And while teaching & leading these organizations, Maureen also was committed to her community & Rockledge sports. From Little League baseball, football, & soccer volunteering to being a founding member of Rockledge High School’s Quarterback Club, Maureen absolutely enjoyed & loved to help & serve the sport-side of youth around Brevard with all she had, as well. She single-handedly helped make many great memories for her children & children all across Rockledge & Brevard County!
More than all the ways she served her community, Maureen Reneau was an incredible mother, & not just to her 3 children , but also to any child her children brought into her home. All were welcomed & cared for & loved by her. She was encouraging, supportive, straightforward, fair, & loving.
EVERYONE MATTERED to Maureen, but what mattered most to her were her 8 grandchildren: Noah, Riley, & Cassidy; Ashlyn & Ciara; & Jacob, Zachary, & Matthew. She left an incredible legacy of Mystery Tours, Adventures, Memory-Making, & love. Maureen aka Nana was truly the best!
Maureen is preceded in death by her parents (Paul & Mary Cassidy); her husband (Jon D. Reneau, Sr.); & her brother (Paul, Jr.). Maureen will be missed by all who knew her, & while we mourn her loss, we thank God for her extraordinary life that touched SO many lives & left a beautiful, indelible mark on the lives of all she encountered.
In lieu of flowers, please, consider donating to Rockledge High School’s Wrestling Team or Brevard County Special Olympics Stand-Up Paddle Boarding Team.
We invite all who knew & loved Maureen to celebrate her life at her Funeral Mass on Saturday, February 17th at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rockledge, FL. Eternal rest grant unto Maureen, O Lord, & may perpetual light shine upon her.
