Obituary of John D. Mountjoy

John lived a wonderful life of 101 years old, active and still driving.
The oldest of nine children, John was born on October 7, 1915 to John Walter and Pearl
Mountjoy on the family farm in Warrington, Virginia.
He joined the The United States Army Air Corps during World War ll serving stateside.
After discharge from the Army, he moved to Northern Virginia working for Western
Electric installing telephone systems in the Pentagon.
John met the love of his life Dolores Schleis from Stangelville Wisconsin while they both
worked at the Pentagon and were married on December 23,1950 at St. Matthew's Cathedral, Washington, D.C.
Together they built a home on Prosperity Avenue in Fairfax Virginia and raised three boys, John, William and James.

He went on to work for the Department of Defense at the National Security Agency in Fort Meade Maryland.

John loved hunting wild turkeys, geese, and doves with his best friend Sy Bartlett, and was an avid antique shotgun collector.

After 34 years with the National Security Agency he retired and John & Dolores became snowbirds splitting their time between Virginia and Florida.

They later bought a home in Barefoot Bay Florida and became permanent residents..
After breaking a hip, John celebrated his 101th birthday on October 7, 2016 in the hospital on
lockdown as hurricane Mathew was predicted to make landfall in Melbourne Florida that day.
On December 23, 2016 John & Dolores celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
John passed peacefully two months later surrounded with family by his side.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores, sons, John, William, James & Jenny, his brother, David, and sister Marie Minder.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Elks Lodge in Fairfax, VA, where John was a 50 year member.
Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery when a date becomes available.
