Obituary of Dana Elaine McLaurin
Dana Elaine McLaurin, 66, died on January 1,2024 in her home in Melbourne Beach, Florida. She is predeceased by her mother, Concetta (Connie) McLaurin and her father, Daniel Leonard McLaurin. She is survived by her sister, Cirina McLaurin (Donne Mills).
Dana was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 9, 1957, but she loved her life in Florida. She enjoyed Space Coast launches, Science studies, sea turtles, the ocean, the beach, moonrises, and sunsets. She loved wearing beautiful jewelry, watching NFL football, delightful “Pool Wednesdays” with friends, Angel Time, and Happy Hours.
Dana earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Emotionally Handicapped and Specific Learning Disabilities from Appalachian State University and a Master’s Degree from St.Thomas University. She was a passionate Exceptional Student Education teacher for 30 years. Although her career began in the Miami/Dade area, it included 23 years at Stone Magnet Middle School in Brevard County. After retirement, she continued to be a substitute teacher. She personally mentored several young people for many years (Michael, Rachel, and Kevin). Dana was fun, generous, forgiving and always grateful for a blessed life. She was a woman of great faith, always shared love and showed compassion.
Dana leaves behind her beloved sister and many cherished friends in Florida and North Carolina. She will always be remembered and greatly missed. The family would like to thank her many friends for all their love and support over the years.
Dana celebrated life every day! In her honor, we will be gathering in the Regional Pavilion at Wickham Park, Sunday, February 25, 2024 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Please join family and friends for a champagne toast to a blessed life. There will be a second Celebration of Life in Charlotte, North Carolina at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sea Turtle Preservation Society, 111 South Miramar Avenue Indialantic, Florida 32903.
