Obituary of Ellen Maloney Currens

Ellen Maloney Currens, 82, passed away on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024. She was born in Indianapolis, IN on October 11, 1941 to Edward and Betty Maloney.

Ellen was an avid volunteer who was involved with many organizations. Her long-time involvement with St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, as a volunteer and a donor, began when she lived in Memphis and she continued it while she lived in Kailua Kona, HI. She also worked for ALSAC, the company that raises funds for St. Jude’s.

She also volunteered for VASH, Habitat for Humanity, St. Michael the Archangel church in Kailua Kona, and the Outdoor Circle.

Ellen married Hilton B. Currens, Jr. on Nov. 22, 1962 and the couple recently celebrated their 61st anniversary.

Playing cards with her grandchildren and doing needlework were her favorite pastimes of Ellen’s.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Hilton Currens, Jr.; daughter, Molly Currens; son, Ted Currens; grandchildren, Adam Gaskins, Heather Gaskins, Shannon Gaskins, Max Currens, Chayce Currens; sister, Molly Delevett; brother, Mayer Maloney, Jr. She was predeceased by her parents, Betty and Mayer Maloney and her brother, Michael Maloney.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 6th, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 300 Malabar Road, Palm Bay, FL. She will be interred at Fountainhead Memorial Park following the service.
