Obituary of James F. Flaherty

James Francis Flaherty, 75-year-old longtime Bloomfield resident, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 5, 2023 at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Florida.  Born in 1948 to parents Francis and Pauline Flaherty, he learned the value of family and community.  He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1966 and joined the Navy shortly thereafter, spending most of his tour on the Destroyer, USS Green.  After leaving the Navy, he eventually joined the “family business” and became a Bloomfield Firefighter in 1972.  He retired from the fire department as a Captain in 1997, and moved to Melbourne, Florida.  He is predeceased by both parents, his brother, Michael Flaherty, and his niece, Sara-Nicole Morales.  He leaves his wife, Barbara (nee Raszetnik), sisters Winifred Sheyka and her husband Nicholas Sheyka, Doreen Flaherty, five nephews, two grand-nephews and three grand-nieces. 

As there will be no service per his wishes, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.
