Obituary of Ben Campbell Young
Our beloved brother, Ben Campbell Young, quietly passed away after a brief illness on November 2, 2023, in Rockledge, FL. Ben was 79 and died on his mother’s birthday which was an appropriate coincidence as he had cared for his mother for the last 10 years of her life.
Ben was born in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky on February 15, 1944, and spent most of his life along the Indian River Lagoon which he loved dearly. He graduated from Cocoa High School in 1962, received an associate degree from Brevard Junior College and attended the University of Florida. While at Florida, Ben was the manager for the basketball team.
Ben was an avid sports fan and fanatical Gator supporter, followed closely by the Orlando Magic and the Miami Dolphins. He had an endless supply of jokes and could tell them all night if allowed.
Ben was predeceased by his father, John Morgan Young and mother, Sue B. Young, long-time residents of Cocoa, FL. He is survived by two loving brothers, John Morgan Young, Jr. (Jack) and Dan B. Young and by his stepbrother, Regis Ryan.
A Celebration of Life is planned for family and friends on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Whitley Bay Condos, 93 Delannoy Ave., Cocoa, FL. It will be held in the Club House on the 3rd floor. We hope Ben’s friends will be able to join us in this Celebration from 2 to 4 PM. Please let us know if you wish to attend so we can prepare properly. A short email to jmorganii@aol.com will be appreciated and we can supply access and parking information. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Salvation Army.
