Obituary of Walter Roland Eastman

Walter Roland Eastman, 90, passed away August 31, 2023, at the William Childs Hospice House, Palm Bay from dementia. Born November 5, 1932, in Waterville, ME, he was the son of the late Ora Roland and Myrtle Ethelyn (Stephens) Eastman. 

Walter graduated from Portland High School in 1950.  Walter spent his entire working life at the Army Navy Surplus Store in Portland, Maine.  He started his career as stock clerk and retired in 1994 as vice president.  

Walter was married to the late Gloria Arlene (Wentworth) Eastman for 25 years sharing their children, Carol Lynn Eastman and James Edward Eastman.  Walter relocated to Florida in 1998 from South Casco, Maine with his late wife Norma Anne (Dobbins) Eastman and enjoyed 43 years of marriage.  

Walter served for 5 years in the Maine National Guard as a staff sergeant.  He was a Mason in Maine, loved working in the yard, gardening, woodworking, fishing with his nephew Bobby, hunting, hiking, boating & being Carol’s “handyman”. 

He is survived by his daughter, Carol Lynn Eastman of Palm Bay, FL, son, James Edward Eastman and his wife Terry Smart of Forney, TX, nephews Robert and Jonathan Parlin of Rowlett, TX, niece, Judy Ingerowski and her husband, John of Vero Beach, FL, grandson Eric Hilton and wife Katlin of Chesterville, ME and granddaughter Jamie Peterson Hannifan of WA. 

The family will not be having a service at Walter’s request.  In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to your local animal shelter.
