Obituary of Judith "Judy" Ellen Guy Thompson
Judith "Judy" Ellen Guy Thompson (age 74) died at home in Melbourne, FL, on July 24, 2023, after succumbing to years of kidney dialysis. She was born on November 10, 1948, in Jamaica Queens, NY, to Harold Dewey and Betty Ellen Guy. She was the second of three siblings, brothers Tom and Steve, and sister Linda. She was buried with her family in Colchester, IL. Judith is survived by her husband Daniel Mandelsberg of 35 years, her daughter Amanda Thompson Gorena of Austin, TX; step-daughter Amber Mandelsberg of Huntsville, Alabama; her brother Tom Guy and sister Linda Guy of Melbourne, FL; nephew Sven Guy of Satellite Beach, FL; and niece Tracy Guy Davis of Sudbury, MA.
Judy attended Satellite High School, class of 1966, and graduated from Rollins College in 1976 with a Bachelor's Degree in English and Business Administration. Judith was a Supply Chain Program Manager, employed by the Missile Division of the Raytheon Corporation in Bristol, TN prior to relocating and retiring from Raytheon in Dallas, TX. She was known for her sharp mind by her co-workers.
Judith was described as fun-loving. Her daughter's friends were her kids too. She loved her husband and her dogs Saddie May and Bitsy. She requested to be buried with the ashes of her pups that passed on before her, Riley, Jasmine, Molly, and Chloe. She enjoyed traveling with her closest friend of 50 years, Andrea Eisner of New York, NY. Going to Antique Shows was her favorite pastime. She enjoyed collecting antique furniture and Art Deco. The gift of a Shawnee cookie jar passed from her grandmother, Ruth, who started her cookie jar collection. Judy lived in Florida, New York, California, Tennessee, and Texas but her heart was always with her family in Florida. Driving over the causeway she'd always say, "look for the dolphins!" Judy finally moved back to Florida shortly after her mother's passing, where she died at home, in love.
