Obituary of Winifred M. Brown
Winifred M. Brown of Melbourne Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on February 9, 2023, surrounded by her family at home with Hospice. Winnie was a warrior in her battle with Cancer. She defied the odds with grace and dignity as only Winnie could. She taught us the true meaning of courage.
Winnie was born on May 31,1942 and led a remarkable life in her 80 years. She started by raising four children. She began a career in real estate that lasted over 20 years. During that time Winnie also owned a clothing store. Whether she was running her own business or someone else’s, she did it with tenacity and the interest of the customer in mind. It was more than a sale for her but a calling to help. After her retirement at the age of 70, she went to work for Bloomingdales as a make-up artist. When the commute got to be too much, she took a position at a clothing boutique in Stuart, FL. All who knew her realized she couldn’t sit still and loved her fashion. She finally retired and remarried at the age of 76. Winifred danced her way through life. It was one of her favorite hobbies along with golfing. She also volunteered throughout her illustrious life. Winnie was a volunteer for a hospice in both NY and Florida. She was a lector at her church in Stuart, FL, and Immaculate Church in Melbourne Beach, FL, along with being a member of the Stephen Ministries. Winnie will be remembered mostly for her sparkling personality and her ability to make friends wherever she went. A friend once told her that she was seasoned by life and aged to perfection. That was our Winnie.
Survivors include her loving husband Francis Meyer of Melbourne Beach; son, Joseph Brown of NY; daughters Beth Ann Brown of FL; Suzanne Manna of NY; and Julie Buckley (Brian) of CT. Her grandchildren Matthew Simmons (Ellen) of Maine; Megan Simmons (Ruth) of Nevada; Makenzie (Emily) Manna of NY; Hannah Buckley of CT; and Madeline Buckley of NY. She also had two great-grandchildren Isabella and Jacob Simmons of Maine. Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Helen Evans; her sister Barbara Rhoades and her husband John Brown.
A Celebration of the Funeral Mass for Winifred will be held on March 1, 2023, at 11:00 am. Service is at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church located at 3780 S. Highway A1A Melbourne Beach, FL.
