Obituary of Richard Whitten Dell

Richard Whitten Dell, 99, died peacefully at home on January 18, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Richard, aka Dick, was born November 10, 1923, in Columbia, SC. He married Wilma Vaughn on December 26, 1947. Richard served in the US Navy during World War II on Submarines as an electronics engineer. After the Navy, he worked for Pan Am and NASA at Cape Canaveral. Later, he opened Teltronics, an electronic business in Eau Gallie, Florida. He sold this business in 1975 and he and Wilma moved to Little Torch Key, where he became a general contractor building houses in the Keys.

Richard was a consummate sailor he and Wilma had many wonderful adventures sailing in Denmark and the Caribbean and inventing traveling with "No Reservations". They also traveled many times to Europe, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Those memories he was so very fond of sharing over a good meal with a good drink surrounded by good friends.

Richard was predeceased by his son, Richard in 2001, his wife, Wilma in 2011, and 3 brothers, Charles, Bill, and Tom. He is survived by a sister, Anna Grace Miller, aka Cherry, 3 Grandsons, Richard Edward Dell-Peaks, Richard Austin Dell, and Christopher Ray Dell. He was also extremely proud to be called “Grandad” by his 11 great-grandchildren: Reythe, Kailey, Jeremy, Eathen, Morgan, Wyatt, Bryanna, James, Jayden, Jasmine, and Jesslyn.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Eric Lang, Holmes Regional Hospital, St. Francis Hospice, friends, and family. Their support through this difficult time is treasured and unforgettable.

A graveside memorial service will be held at Umatilla Cemetery in Umatilla, FL on February 11, 2023, at 11 am.
