Obituary of Maggie Harp
Maggie Harp, of West Melbourne, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022 at home at the age of 65. She was born Margaret Mary Selkow on March 9, 1957 in New York City to Lloyd and Margaret K. Selkow.
Maggie was a retired commercial painter who worked in construction from the age of 21. She loved the outdoors, especially fishing, kayaking, and swimming, but her lifetime vocation was Cat Lady. She rescued upwards of 100 cats during her life, and they were all allowed on the furniture, and anywhere else they pleased.
Her home was a place of hospitality where family gatherings were held for more than 40 years. It was also a compassionate home where she provided end of life care to her grandmother and mother.
Maggie was preceded in death by her soul mate, Rubin Gonzales; parents LLoyd Selkow and Peggy Shaw (Selkow); and brother Joe Selkow. She is survived by brothers Ed Selkow, Rob Selkow; sisters Cindy Selkow, Gretchen Cordy; nieces Bethany (Nate) Lusk, Justine (Martin) Russom; nephews John Michael (Brittany) Selkow, Andrew Selkow; great nieces and nephews Chloe, Keith, Gracie, Isaac, Joseph, Sam, Makyah, Katriell, and Eliyahna. Her extended family includes Mike Fulmer, Judy & Roger Bishop, GIa Phares, Peb Elliot, Abbi Fleming, the Gonzales, LeBlanc, Barber, and Hermanson families of Houston, TX.
Private services will be held. Donations in Maggie's memory can be made to the South Brevard Humane Society, a no-kill cat rescue.
