Barbara Ogrodny

Obituary of Barbara Louise Ogrodny

Barbara Louise Ogrodny of Deltona, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 14, 2022.

Barbara was born on October 7, 1938, to Catherine and Daniel Scully of Chicago, Illinois. She married Matthew S. Ogrodny Jr., on September 3, 1960, giving birth to four daughters.

Beloved mother and grandmother; Barbara spent many hours at sporting events, recitals, and graduations. Her role as a Brownie Troop leader inspired young girls to build character and learn to value community service. Her faith in God and commitment to raise her children in faith motivated her to overcome many obstacles. Barbara was one of the strongest, most generous women raising four independent children and sponsoring a child from overseas through the Save the Children organization.

In 1984 Barbara earned a degree in accounting and after moving to Florida she became the bookkeeper for the Palm Beach Sailfish Yacht club for many years.

In her retirement Barbara spent hours giving of herself to others. She volunteered at our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, serving soup for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, joining the funeral choir ministry, sewing cherished clothing to create Comfort Bears, and crafting commemorative rosaries. Saint Jude Hospital for Children in Chicago held a special place in Barbara’s heart; she often asked family to make a donation to the hospital in lieu of gifts for birthday or Christmas.

Barbara’s love for Koala bears was superseded only by her passion for Wrigley field and the Chicago Cubs. She never missed a day listening to WGN and cheering on her hometown team. Her trip to Ireland and Scotland in 2015 was a favorite memory.

Barbara was predeceased in death by her parents, brother Daniel Scully, daughter Natalie Johnson, and granddaughter Erica Blaski. She is survived by her sister Michelle Brock (Terry), and daughters Rebecca Ogrodny, Kimberly Lundmark (Rob) and Jennifer Vanderwarker (Sam). Grandchildren: Anthony Giardina, Michael Cooper (Jamie), Stephanie Giardina, Cheryl Cooper (Josh), Andrew Baker, Riley Lundmark, Clayton Wheeling (Allie) and Great-grandchildren: Madison Cooper, Savannah Cooper, Maverick Wheeling.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Palm Bay immediately followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery. The Shack Riverfront restaurant in Palm Bay will host the memorial luncheon after the service.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers please donate to Saint Jude Children Research Hospital  https://www.stjude.org/
