I am so very sorry for your great loss. Your Mother was a very special lady whom I admired tremendously, she was very much an old school Brit in her ways, wonderfully strong, selfless, determined and resilient. She was always so kind to me when we were kids, so I am very glad that I was fortunate enough to be able to visit her on 5 occasions over the last 29 years when she lived in Boston and Florida. She was such a wonderful hostess, nothing was too much trouble and she was always determined to help us get the most out of our vacations. I have read your Mum's obituary, which has only increased my admiration and respect for her. I personally will never forget her gracious manner and the kindness she always showed me. 102 is a fantastic age to have reached and you can be proud that your Mother lived such a wonderfully full life, not many of us will leave such an impression on others and the world!

My grandmother was my sweet heart.
For 23yrs I was able to visit w/her nearly monthly at her home in Inverness. What a gift.
She often repeated her stories which made me enjoy them even more.
A week before she passed, after we watched NASA crash an object into an asteroid, I waved goodbye to her at the door & then hid in the hallway, waited 10 seconds & looked back in.
She was still looking at the empty doorway.
She gave me the biggest smile.
I blew her a kiss.
I will miss my girl.

to Eileen's family (Theresa's Nanny)
My condolences on your loss. God had a plan for her, one that lasted 102 plus years and what a plan that was! Eileen came into my life when she arrived in Winchester and I am proud to call her a life-long friend, and it is because of her, that I found such a friend in her Granddaughter, Theresa, if Eileen hadn't come to Winchester, I wouldn't have met Theresa all those years ago.
We worked together until her retirement and I have such fond memories that I will cherish. I missed her when she retired but was happy knowing that her many years of hard work enabled her to retire to her home in Florida. She cared about everyone and is such a special person to me and always will be. She lived a rather cosmopolitan life and shared many of her experiences with me over the years and definitely overcame and dealt with a LOT during her lifetime. I knew her as resilient and strong and caring and independent and loving and so much more. I miss her and thank you for sharing Eileen with me
Much love and prayers to each and everyone one of you .....

My condolences to all members of Nanny's family, of which I consider myself one, I didn't know Nanny as well as many of you in a personal sense, althoug I met her in person on a few occasiions, and tagged along on many phone calls between Nanny and Theresa. From my personal interactions, I can say that she was sharp, delightful and funny -- she had a great sense of humor. The rest of what I know about Nanny comes from conversations with you all, mostly Theresa, and from those I learned about her remarkable journey through this life. She had grit, and stamina, and determination, qualities that I value very highly. I wish I had more oppotunities to talk with her. I wish she didn't have to leave. I will miss her.

My Nannie was an interesting woman who was born a few years after the end of World War 1. She witnessed and lived through history that all of us only read about in books. Her story could be a novel. She loved and lost. She survived the bombings of London during WW2. She arrived back in the USA in her 60’s to start another career. My Nannie was made of a different breed. Strength, resilience, grit, and a belief in herself. She kept her secrets secret and taught us to only trust ourselves. I pray that she is having a Guinness and laughing with her mother while listening to her favorite classical music. I will miss her. I love you Nannie!!!

Eileen was a loving and kind woman who made all feel welcome. I have fond memories of her when I worked at the Mount Vernon House in Winchester. She cared for all residents and staff with compassion, wit and zeal. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

My mother was hard working, brave and adventurous. She always stood up for the oppressed and she loved all animals. She was a good mother and grandmother who always came to our aid when we needed it. I love you mum and I will see you again

I want to start by thanking Richard for writing such a beautiful obituary of my grandmother.
Nanny was beautiful and kind and loved children and animals. She was also a force of nature
who made her own way in this world. She was very independent, strong willed, and
hardworking and taught me a lot about survival. Her philosophy balanced a belief in
self-determination and free will as well as an unshakeable trust in fate.
(I realize these are opposites.)
You see, Nanny embodied the "Keep Calm and Carry On" and "stiff upper lip" mindset
of the World War II generation of London. I don't recall her ever being anxious.
Whatever it was that she was dealing with at the moment, she got on with it. She found
a solution, planned, and moved forward. Ever practical, Nanny told me often to remember
to "bide my time." Everything will work out.
She also wondered almost daily over the last forty years how amazing it was that she was
still alive. After all, she marveled, how had she survived many things where
others had not--the Blitz of London, for example, as well as many serious illnesses
(including a burst appendix, a tubular pregnancy, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, a brain tumor
and even Covid). She concluded that while you have free will to do what you want to with
your life, some things are pre-determined. She would often say, "I believe that from the
moment of conception, God has marked the day you are going to die."
God has called you home, Nanny. I love you and miss you.
I wrote a longer tribute for my Nanny last week, tinyurl.com/2s4hdt9u .
