Obituary of Melody Anne Rogers Stillie
Melody Anne Rogers Stillie went to heaven on June 3, at the age of 78. Born in Raton, New Mexico to James and Mildred Rogers, her family moved all over the world because of her father’s position as a Special Investigator in the USAF. Melody was the middle child between Kelly and Michael. Aileen became her loving stepmom.
Melody attended Suitland High School in Maryland where she met Ed Stillie. At age 17 Melody, a Cheerleader, asked Ed, the Captain of the football team, to the Sadie Hawkins dance, which is a story she often told. She also attended junior college in Maryland. Ed and Mel have been together ever since for 61 years and 57 years of marriage; a true love story.
In the early 1960’s Melody worked for the Department of Agriculture in Washington DC where she won the title of Miss Agriculture. In the early years of marriage, while Ed flew in the USAF she lived in Taiwan with their two babies. Melody helped start an orphanage for the local people of Taichung. With Ed flying in the USAF and then for United Airlines, she would hold down the fort at home in locations around the country. In 1983, the family moved to Satellite Beach, Florida where they built their dream home which began Melody’s love affair with Florida.
Melody was selfless, warm, helpful, generous, caring and fun, and she loved her family fiercely. She always had a smile for everyone and never met a stranger. Melody was a devoted wife, supportive mother, and doting Nana. Melody, a proud “homemaker,” always had a home-cooked meal ready for dinner and hosted all kinds of people like business partners, foreign exchange students, lots of family and friends, and even stray pets. Holidays were very important to Melody and she loved hosting her annual Christmas party and watching the boat parade.
Melody cared deeply about her community and volunteered most of her adult life. She spent countless hours volunteering in her children’s schools, at the Haven Lamb Shop, the Brevard Art Museum-the Council of 100, Holmes Regional Hospital, and Trinity Wellspring Church. She loved the Lord and ALL of his people. She was known as “the Hugger,” at church but her official titles were Deacon, Greeter, and Mentor. She enjoyed all travel, especially cruising, but loved her home in Satellite Beach the most. Melody’s true passion was loving her family, raising her children, and spending time with the love of her Iife, Ed.
Melody is survived by her loving husband Ed, three children, Heidi, Sheri, and EJ, her brother Michael, and six beautiful grandchildren.
Services will be held on July 14 at Trinity Wellsprings Church trinitywellsprings.com at 4 PM followed by a Celebration of Life.
