He was a great guidance counselor but a better friend. I re-met Bill Burch when I walked into Trinity Presbyterian, now Trinity Wellsprings church, in the summer of 2007… Bill would always joke when he saw me and tell me “I made you everything you’ve become” because he was my guidance counselor when I attended DeLaura Jr High. Bill was witty and had a gift of telling stories and his stories always in some way pointed to Jesus, Bill loved Jesus and he loved being a Christian. He was always quick to remind you of what a sinner he was but also ready to explain the grace and forgiveness of a loving God! Yes, he wrote in circles and joked about us all being on a hamster wheel of sorts. I had the honor of hearing much of Bills inspiring life testimony’s as Bill was a regular attender of our Mens Fraternity ministry. His stories inspired and made you think “when I’m old, I wanna be like that guy!” Bill always had little phrases, us guys around him called them Burchisms, sayings like “the first 2/3rds of GOD IS GO!” Or his famous “do you know that you are loved and appreciated…… (ending with) .. but no one ever loved you like Jesus” … Bill gave the kids $2bills giving my kids them on several occasions .. when my 5 year old son was once asked “where did you get that $2 bill” he replied, go see Mr. Burch, he has millions of them .. lol… Bill liked that one! I loved Bills stories, from Slop Pots to Fruit Cakes, he was a hoot! The last few years was tough on Bill but now he’s in a place free of pain. I miss my friend, but his memories are richly fill with the hope of a loving God, a resurrected God, that Bill was always ready to meet. RIP Mr. Burch, I suspect you’re cracking jokes with St. Peter at the pearly gates… until we meet again my friend!!!

Bill Burch was Gods gift to struggling youngsters. He noticed the ones that were hurting and always found a way to make them feel recognized and special. My parents were divorced when I was young, and I remember in 7th grade wishing he was my dad. Everyone at school loved him and he was always ready with a hug for anyone who needed one. My very deepest condolences to his family, please know the incredible impact he had on his students. We are grateful!

He was my counselor when I was in Jr High in the late 70s . He was always smiling and making jokes. I hope his wife had a sense of humor. They were usually wife jokes. He had a kind heart and genuinely cared about the kids. He has a well earned crown in heaven. Till we meet again Mr. Burch
