Memories of William “Bill” Baer
Carla and family, so sorry to hear of the loss of Bill, to this life. Bill was a dynamic person and a top-notch
aviator. When he was working his mind was always focused on safety and procedures of flight. Bill was
full of visions of the future, and he put many of these visions to fruition and created a management
company that worked well for him and his clients. Just a great personality. I think everyone who knew
Bill wanted to share conversation with him, especially if aviation was the topic. He knew his profession
as well as or better than anyone. Bill was a devoted family man and an overall devoted professional.
Carla was his love, and he never missed a chance to let you know she deserved most of the credit for his
successes. A true loss to humanity much too early in life.
We will all miss him.
Safe travels Bill, soar high with the angels!

I met Bill in 1982 when we were both part of a class of 16 officers hired by GPD. Early on in our Police Academy Bill stood up with that huge smile of his and announced “I’m running for class president!” We all said great!, and he was immediately elected president. During breaks Bill would open the trunk of his old Mustang and try to sell you preppy button shirts that he kept on hand. It was hilarious! The sales pitch always started with his big smile. One day we both walked into the police station on our day off and Bill had his big German Shepherd pet dog by his side. I mentioned to Bill that you might want to leave the dog outside. He just gave me that big smile and said he’s fine. Of course you can imagine how that turned out once he got inside with people thinking it was a police K-9 and not a pet.
Bill was a true friend and I’m sorry to hear of his passing. Carla, May God bless you and your daughters.
With love, Scott and Lynn Meffen

I am very sad to hear of Bill's passing. I went through the Police Academy with Bill in 1982. There was never a dull moment with Bill around. I flew with Bill when he had his first plane and we accidently ended up in restricted air space over a military base in Pensacola FL. I was also on a family fight call one night requesting backup when things got physical. Bill showed up and came crashing thru the front door without trying the door knob which was unlocked. I was happy to see him. Bill was a great man and married a wonderful lady, Carla. Your family is in my prayers.

Bill and I met in 1989. We flew together, did ALPA work together, and for awhile shared an apartment in Kew Gardens, NY. Bill was one of those rare people who could light up a room with his joy and wit. He lives on in many hearts, not least mine.

To Bill's family and many friends, I am deeply saddened by the news of his illness and passing. When I think of my college days, being in Bill's great company through our many mutual friends (PiLam mostly), I have to smile and laugh. That fabulous personality, smile, and the way he listened to people and truly cared about their problems. May his memory be forever a blessing. Lauri-Ellen Smith
