Most of my earliest snapshots of memory are from Nana and Papa's condo in Cocoa Beach. Sitting on the back patio eating French toast sticks, endless hours at the beach, swimming in the pool and kayaking with the manatees serve as perhaps the most idyllic form memories with grandparents one could ask for. How to love unconditionally, be present with loved ones, forgive and derive value from creativity are all things I learned from her presence in my life. While one could at times accuse her of possessing a rose colored tint to her view of the world, I think she'd argue that that is just a better way of being in it. Nana was and is the best example of a grandmother anyone could have ever asked for. What a wonderful thing it is to have known a true application of unconditional love.

Richard, Marybeth, Christine, Austin and Connor, I have been struggling with what to put here as Cathy was so important to our family, I think one of the greatest things a person can leave are fond memories as your legacy, well Cathy has left us with so many.
We don't know where to begin, Cathy and Richard even though many miles away have always been in our thoughts, our phone conversations were outstanding and filled with so many wonderful laughs and reminiscing, she always amazed me with her positive outlook on everything. Her memories of boating with Richard and the girls when they were in Buffalo made me smile, so many wonderful times you spent together, her growing up in Owen Sound and her stories of all her brothers and sisters, friends and her parents were funny and entertaining. Cath's love of fun and spontaneity will always be remembered and cherished. The summers at the Beach still are forefront in my memories of Cathy, looking after all the kids, the inner tubes, go kart rides, horse back riding and of course the church dinners at Shallow Lake. Cathy and Richard coming up to nurse our father back to health was so touching, and how she handled the hospital staff was amazing.
Cathy's love of laughter and family are a wonderful tribute to her and she has inspired all of us to continue what she has shown us.
Richard, you and Cathy have had made so many great and lasting memories for all of us, we can't thank you enough.
I know Cathy is at peace now catching up with her mom and dad, brother and sisters and all your friends who gone before you. I am looking forward to seeing her again someday.
Love all of you so much

Cathy was a 2nd Mother to me and she watched my boys grow up... She was the sweetest, kindest, and warm hearted person I have ever known and there is so many years of memories. I will always remember the picnics she had for me, Beth & Christine in the backyard in Buffalo she would cut off the crusts on our peanut butter sandwiches something that little becomes a memory you never forget. She loved dressing us 3 girls up to the hilt when we were little. Cathy & Dick lived across the street from us in Buffalo and that is how my mother and her met and became like sisters and our families were always very close. I always remember her laugh as it always made you laugh as well. I will miss you so much and I'm glad you wont have to suffer no more. May you rest in peace. My heart goes out to Dick, Beth & Christine & Family at this time. Prayers for you to have strength and may God hold you in his arms at this time. Love Diane (Sulecki) Ingham

Cathy - Nana, as we knew her - was the greatest Grandma anyone could ask for. We grew up going over to Nana and Papa's cozy little beach condo in Cocoa Beach, full of shells and Nana's paintings and arts and crafts and everything you'd expect from a Grandma. With the ocean a couple blocks away and the Banana river in the backyard, some of my fondest memories were weekends spent at the beach with our Nana and Papa building sand castles, playing in the waves, and eating sandy PB&Js. I'm pretty sure being a Grandma was one of Cathy's favorite things in life - at least, that's what she told us every time we visited! She was infectiously happy and positive about everything, and you couldn't help but smile listening to her espouse how wonderful the world was. She touched the lives of all of her friends and family, and will be greatly missed.

This is tough to write. My sister Cathy was the next oldest to me in the Schwan family of brothers & sisters, providing many, many wonderful memories growing up at 640-15th St Owen Sound, Ontario. I and my lovely wife Donna, our boys David & Mark have some wonderful, warm longlasting memories of our times spent at Sauble Beach and the renown Schwan reunions. Cathy was always at the center of any activity, regardless what it was.I don't think I ever heard a negative word or comment come out of Cathy's mouth, she just embraced joy & life. Donna & I had the pleasure of visiting Richard & Cathy many times in Florida over the years; the Nursery school & home (with the fireplace), the Intracostal waterway condo, Cocoa Beach & Melbourne, the trailer in Buffalo. The wonderful Xmas in Hilton Head with the girls Mary Beth & Christine, Austen & Conor, Cathy arriving & Richard taking a "long" time to unpack their vehicle because Cathy had made & bought numerous Xmas gifts for everyone.
As one reads these wonderful tributes to Cathy, her zest for life and the positive is obvious, but we must not forget that Richard,a quiet & caring husband, was always there supporting and sharing with Cathy all the wonderful memories they created with everyone they came into contact with.
Cathy is now at rest with the predeceased Schwan family members, mom & dad, brother & sisters Pat, Carrie & Bill to create new memories & Cathy enjoying an endless supply of "Canadian" chocolate bars. God Bless & My Your Spirit Soar with the Eagles.

As it's said, we don't always remember exactly what someone said or did.
But we always remember how they made us feel.
Aunt Cathy always made me feel welcomed and loved.
She loved Chocolate and Sauble Beach.
We loved her.....

Life will seem lonelier without my phone call to Cathy. We had such a great time lately reminiscing about all the fun we had growing up together, at a time when “COME IN WHEN THE STREET LIGHTS COME ON” was the house rule.
Cathy was always the spontaneous one, ready to just have fun wherever she was right through her adult life as we all have memories of. Cathy loved children, she was always a big kid at heart, sharing lots of smiles and hugs. Cathy loved painting and did many beautiful one, some of which we have been gifted. Her spirit was shown in her paintings, soft colours, beautiful flowers,
As we go forward without her we now know she is at peace, well earned .
Cathy I will remember, love and pray for you forever.
Your Loving Sister Helen

Cathy, My dear friend, when you left you took a piece of me with you. Not only were you like a sister to me but also like a second mother to my children. I have so many memories of the time we spent together and the fun we had together with Dick and Denny. You were always so positive, upbeat and willing to try anything. Problem was most of the stuff you wanted to try was out of the question - like joining the Coast Guard when you were 45!! You were always so warm and loving and such a joy to be around. I''m sad that you won' be in my life going forward but I'm so glad you are suffering no more. Rest in peace my friend.

Any story that begins: "So then Cathy and Rodie...." usually ends with some kind of trouble. I'm sure things might be getting stirred up again now....
Before the move to Florida, when the Holthams and the Pattons all lived in Buffalo, we spent every holiday, event, or even just Sunday dinners together. I think I spent half my early life with Cathy, Richard, Beth , and Christine. To say that Cathy treated like one of her own children is an understatement. Cathy had a capacity for love that is unequalled, and she showed it. When I think of Cathy, I recall happy times, her laugh, and all the family together at Sauble Beach.
All our love to our wonderful, kind, and loving cousin

Our Aunt Cathy was a loving and joyful individual. Cathy always took a keen interest in whatever we happened to be doing at the time - and made sure were having fun doing it. A very caring lady who also took time to help care for both my parents and nurse my father back to health on a number of occasions. She will be forever in my mind leading a squadron of Nieces and Nephews, equipped with inner tubes and floaties, into the waves at Sauble Beach on a warm summers day. Love always - Bill, Cindy, Matthew and Meghan.

I have been so saddened by the loss of my dear sister-in-law Cathy who has been part of my life for over 40 years. How lucky and privileged I was to have known her.
Her unfailing support and love for our family, her boundless optimism, her thrill in the play and lives of young children, support for their success's and her unwavering love for her family were all hallmarks of her generous spirit and genuine care.
I have walked beaches with Cathy picking up shells, dug holes in the sand, admired sunsets, shared her enthusiasm for capturing the light in watercolors, talked about life's bigger questions, shared her love of chocolate, Sauble Beach and enjoyed her quick laugh which was always there.
We are all diminished by the loss of Cathy and how large she lived enjoying every moment of a life well lived.
Keep on painting Kid Love Jacquie

My sister Cathy was such a kind, loving and positive influence in my life. Cathy took me on my first train ride, bought me my first bike, has always been welcoming and generous. She used to tell me how she had told my mother she was responsible for me being born because she had prayed so much for me when my mother was pregnant with me. Cathy has always been so caring towards others and her passing leaves a big hole in our lives. Cathy, you will always hold a special place in my heart and I shall strive to follow your example. I am lovin' ya, Mike
