Obituary of Roderick Batease
Roderick (Rod) Batease, 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 10, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Victoria Batease, his children Amanda and her husband Scott Darr, Jessica and her husband Larry Conwell, Sarah and her husband Bronce McClain, John and his wife Autumn Batease, and Christina Batease. Rod is also survived by his six grandchildren; Jordan, Trey, Brooke, Fitz, Mae, and Iris. Rod was preceded in death by his parents John & Jean Batease, his brother Henry Batease, his sister Karen Pilkerton and his niece Tammy Wyatt.
Rod was born in Washington, DC on March 29, 1946 and grew up in Washington, DC and Rockville, MD. In his life, Rod was a father, foster father, boy scout leader, world traveler, jazz enthusiast and a cigar and scotch connoisseur. Rod loved bicycling, tennis, sailing, and cars. He had a passion for mid-century modern home design. So much so that he spent over 35 years working for the Danish furniture and interiors company Scan International, first as a buyer and ultimately a store manager. Scan played a pivotal role in his life, as it's where he also met his future mother-in-law and his wife. Family, being a kind and generous person, and his beard were most important to him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Ammen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Hickory Street, Melbourne, FL. Rod will be laid to rest at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 14, at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 US-1, Rockledge, FL.
