Obituary of Marian Elizabeth Henderson
Marian was born to Albert Rose and Martha Ruth Rose (née Schoedell) on October 16, 1920, in Pittsburgh, PA. She married Warren Ellsworth Henderson, whom she met in art class at Carnegie Mellon, a few years after graduating from Allegheny High School. Marian lived in California during WWII, before Warren and she moved back to Pittsburgh, and eventually to nearby Evans City, PA with their daughter Tama. Marian remained there until moving to Melbourne, FL in 2010, five years after Warren’s passing.
Although a quiet person who liked her privacy, Marian was a Brownie troop leader, was active in the PTA, and taught Bible school at Old Union Church in Mars, PA. She was active in the Southwest Butler County’s Republican Party and remained a staunch Republican supporter and fundraiser until 2008 when her political views changed. Marian’s last place of employment was North Hills Passavant Hospital where she worked in the business office from 1970 to 1989.
As far as hobbies, Marian was an avid fan of movies, a passion that began as a little girl attending the silent movies at the Troy Hill Nickelodeon. She also loved attending the theatre, especially the Henegar Center community theatre in Melbourne. Marian was an accomplished portrait artist and baker, winning blue ribbons at the Butler County Fair. She loved working crossword puzzles in pen - and the more difficult, the better. She also enjoyed travel in later years, which included camping throughout New England, as well as travel to England, Scotland, Germany, Luxembourg, and France.
After spending 101 years on this earth, Marian was born into eternity on December 9, 2021, with her daughter at her side. Marian is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Florence O’Patchen, her brothers Albert Rose and Ralph Rose. She is survived by her daughter Tama Johnson, grandson Zach Johnson, great-granddaughter Joycelyn Venable-Johnson, four nephews, four nieces, and numerous great- and great-great- nephews and nieces.
Marian’s ashes will be laid to rest next to those of her husband in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery. Interment date TBD. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marian Henderson’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association https://www.alz.org/nca/donate or to the Disabled American Veterans https://www.dav.org/.
