Obituary of Helen Marie Small Swellie

Helen Marie (Small) Swellie, 86, of West Melbourne, Florida passed away peacefully on October 26, 2021. She spent her final days surrounded by her children Debra (Small) Black, James Small and Joanne (Small) McGuire.

 

Born in Dorchester, MA on April 4, 1935, she was the daughter of the late James F. and Katherine M. (Counihan) Doherty.

 

Helen was known for her beautiful smile, her pillar of strength and her love of New England sports teams.

 

She leaves behind her above mentioned children,  stepdaughter, Sandra Fielder, stepson Robert Swellie and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

 

Helen was preceded in death by her aunts who raised her, Nora Doherty and Nellie Flaherty, her daughter Sharon Small Schmidt, her husband John F. Swellie, her sister Katherine Fitzgerald and her first husband, Richard J. Small.

 

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date in the place she called home, Massachusetts.
