Obituary of Phyllis Joan Raymond

Mrs. Phyllis J. Raymond, 89, of Indialantic, wife of Jack A. Raymond, died on Friday, September 3, 2021.

Phyllis was born on February 12, 1932, in Livonia, Michigan. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Jack, her sisters Sandy and Delores, her daughter Pam Darling of Indialantic, her son Scott Raymond and his wife Dawn of Palm Bay, 6 grandchildren including Michael Raymond of Palm Bay, Angel Firebaugh of Indialantic, and Heather Raymond, currently attending the University of Central Florida, and 8 great-grandchildren.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her son Steve, her brother “Sonny” earlier this year, and her sister Gloria.

With the love of her life, Jack, Phyllis traveled to Hawaii, Aruba, the Bahamas, Reno/Las Vegas many times, and many other places around the country. They had annual seats at the Daytona Speedway to watch their favorite drivers compete in NASCAR. They also held annual seats in Vero to watch the Dodgers play at Spring Training for many years.

Phyllis was a prolific craftsperson creating all kinds of art mostly through her stitchwork. “Crafty Phyll” was part of a craft club she participated in for more than 20 years. Phyllis was also proud to be a Red Hat member which she enjoyed for many years. During her middle years, Phyllis loved to go surf fishing all by herself, or with her friend Kay, at sunrise down at Indialantic beach. She also had a passion for slot machines and exercised this desire many times with her travels with Jack when possible. As the trips faded away, she transitioned to Lotto and scratch-offs which gave her equal pleasure.

While she loved all the travels and events along the way, her passion was always for her husband and family. She would always light up whenever any of her loved ones would visit. She was always very proud of any accomplishment that any of us achieved. She would always send cards or hand-written letters to any of our close and extended family of relatives throughout the land with comforting words or praise. She was just as warm to her friends and neighbors who she would always enjoy having over for a good chat. We felt her love every day and knew she would choose to lay down her own life if she thought any of us could be spared an ounce of pain. She was the core of our family which bound us all together in her loving embrace. She will be dearly missed.

At some point in the future, we will have a “Celebration of Life” to remember the good times and send Phyllis on her final journey. We will let everyone know when this will take place.
